Recipe: hazelnut waffles.

Hello and happy Easter weekend! :)
I haven't been posting a recipe for quite a long time, but last weekend, Flo changed a standard waffle recipe into making hazelnut waffles and they were simply too good to not to share them. :)

That's how you make the waffles:
First of all, stirr the eggs and the sugar until they are creamy. Next, add the butter. Then add the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, hazelnuts, honey, vanilla and milk and again stirr everything until it's creamy. Finally spread the liquid dough all over your waffle maker (according to its instructions) and after baking the waffles, add some powder sugar. Serves best with fresh fruits or homemade fruit mash (we made it with mango, pineapples and banana, sooo good!). :)

New beginnings - From House to Home

I haven't met a single person who says that building a house or making a home is easy! And from what I have discovered so far, it certainly is not.
It is a very slow, tiring, hazy and frustrating project. Of course it does have its moments of fun, excitement and joy!! But by the end of it most home owners remember what this picture below suggests  :)



The first thing I realized, when we started thinking about getting our recently bought apartment done is that there is no single place/organization/website that offers you details of what and how to do this. The ABCs are all for you to figure out. There are a million ways to start and multiple paths to take based on what your neighbours, friends, family or colleagues did. Hence the process is not clear and nothing makes sense initially. It can be very confusing and overwhelming at times. If you are going through such feelings, you are on the right path. But slowly the image shall begin to emerge and you will know what to do. How slow is subjective :)

I am not saying this is rocket science but if there was a website that gave a little intro to the world of how-to-create-your-own-place, that would be nice. I wonder if something like that already exists for Bangalore and I am not aware of it. If you know about something like that please do let me know.

For my own clarity, sanity and to help future new home owners in Bangalore, I plan to document what I discover, see and learn. It might not be an exhaustive list but will be based on places I find out about, people I get to know about and any resources which might be of help.

The 1st stage in this process would be buying a place or thinking about buying a place or maybe you are just remodeling.
The first advice suggestion advice (after checking the dictionary difference between the two, advice makes more sense here) - Start planning early!!
Even before you get the possession of your flat/independent house/villa or whatever else it is that you have. If it is yet to be constructed even better. You can start thinking of designs or designers you would like to use way in advance. If it is ready to move in property, like ours then also no harm done. Once you finalise which property you are buying start the thought process in parallel. Don't wait to start that till after you get possession. Especially if you are in a time crunch for whatever reasons or are in the paying-rent-and-EMI-too situation.

As part of the planning early stage, the first thing would be figuring out whether you want to use an architect, interior designer, a contractor or a carpenter. Don't know the difference between them? Here you go!

* Half cup all-purpose-flour
* Three tablespoons vegetable oil
* One sliced sweet onion
* Half pound sliced mushrooms
* One seeded, julienned yellow bell pepper
* Two tablespoons tomato paste
* Half cup white wine
* Half cup chicken broth
* One can chopped tomatoes
* Half tablespoon butter

Directions:

1. Add salt and pepper to the chicken according to taste and slowly sift in flour.

2. Heat oil in a large pan on a medium flame and add chicken. Fry till golden brown. Keep on a plate separately.

3. Add more oil in the same pan and put in the onion, mushrooms and peppers. Saut? till soft but not overcooked. Add salt and pepper to taste.

4. Add the tomato paste and keep stirring, cooking for few more minutes.

5. Turn up flame and add wine to the pan. Let it reduce for 3 minutes.

6. Mix in chicken broth and tomatoes. Once the mixture begins to bubble a little bit, add chicken and allow to simmer by cutting down heat.


7. Cook until chicken is warmed completely. Turn off flame and add butter.

8. Serve the perfect chicken recipe immediately!

Pasta Salad Recipe

Ingredients:

Salad:
* ? pound of Farfalle pasta
* Freshly ground pepper
* ? tablespoon olive oil
* ? yellow squash sliced
* ? zucchini squash
* ? cup diced sun-dried tomatoes
* ? cup packed fresh basil leaves
* ? cup parsley leaves

Dressing:
* 1 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
* 1 slightly crushed garlic cloves
* ? teaspoon stone ground mustard
* ? teaspoon dried oregano
* ? teaspoon dried basil
* ? teaspoon salt
* Pinch of black pepper
* ? cup extra-virgin olive oil

Directions:
1. Boil pasta in salted water until al dente and drain. Add pepper and olive oil, and toss.

2. Dressing recipe: add vinegar to a blender and shut. Add garlic, mustard, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper through opening. Add olive oil slowly to the blending dressing.

3. Mix dressing, pasta and vegetables thoroughly.

4. Enjoy the yummy pasta recipe!

* 1 carrots cut into julienne strips
* ? sliced onion
* ? sliced red bell pepper
* 4 ounces snow peas
* Teriyaki stir-fry sauce
* Hot cooked rice

Directions:

1. Combine sesame seeds on a plate and coat both sides of tuna steaks.

2. Heat a large pan over high heat until and cook tuna pan gets very hot. Cook per your liking. Remove from heat, and set aside.

3. Heat sesame oil in saucepan over high heat. Add vegetables, and stir-fry till it's crisp and tender. Put the teriyaki stir-fry sauce to taste.

4. Slice tuna steaks and serve with rice and teriyaki vegetables.

5. Your recipe is ready to eat!


Triple-Cooked Chips

Ingredients:
* 1kg peeled potatoes, cut into chips
* Groundnut oil
* Salt
* Pepper

Directions:

1. Place the chips under running water to wash off the starch.

2. Put the chips in cold water and cook till they're almost falling apart.

3. Take the cooked chips out and let them dry.

4. Freeze for at least 1 hour to remove all moisture.

5. Deep fry the chips little by little in very hot oil. Remove once there's a light crust.

6. Drain the oil on kitchen paper.

7. The chips can be frozen for around 2-3 days at this stage.

8. Whenever you want to eat them, you can deep fry them again will they're golden brown.

9. Add salt and pepper to taste.

10. Enjoy the chips recipe with whatever dip you like!

Inspired by this & this & this necklace I saw on Pinterest and inspired by Frau Sieben's pretty geometrical designs, I made those two necklaces with wooden beads (of course only for personal use :)). I love their simplicity and the contrast of natural wood and bright colors.

Vegetarian Recipes (rajiv tiwari)

Recipes with just vegetarian ingredients might seem boring to some, but not with the variety given to you below. These food recipes will tempt vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike!

Potato And Black Bean Salad Recipe

Ingredients:

* 3 potatoes
* ? a can of drained and rinsed chick peas
* An 8 ounce can of marinated and chopped artichoke hearts
* Half a bell pepper cut into small, thin strips
* 3-4 spoons of minced parsley
* 1 sliced scallions
* 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
* Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

1. Microwave the potatoes till they're cooked but not mushy and then cool.

2. Add remaining vegetables in another bowl.

3. Peel and cut the potatoes, add to the vegetables and then add lemon juice.

4. Add salt and pepper to taste.

5. Your yummy vegetarian salad recipe is ready to serve!

French Onion Soup Recipe

Ingredients:

* 5 spoons of margarine
* 1 ? sliced onions
* 1 ? cloves of sliced garlic
* ? teaspoon of sugar
* Pepper to taste
* 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour
* 3 cups of vegetable stock
* ? cup of red wine
* 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce

* 1 teaspoon of fresh thyme
* 1 French baguette
* Thinly sliced mozzarella

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 450?F.

2. Heat the margarine in a stockpot and add the onions and cook on a medium flame till they're soft. Keep stirring.

3. After around 10 minutes add the garlic, sugar and pepper.

4. After the onions are caramelized, add the flour, stirring to blend well.

5. Add the vegetable stock, wine, Worcestershire sauce and thyme and bring the soup to a boil. Reduce the flame, cover and let it simmer for 10 minutes. Your soup recipe is almost complete!

6. Slice and toast the baguette.

7. Place a slice of the baguette on top of each bowl of soup and cover with mozzarella. Place the bowls on a foiled baking dish.

8. Bake till the cheese just starts to melt.

9. Your yummy soup is waiting to be eaten! Try the recipe soon and enjoy the creation.

Learn How To Master Lasagna (rajiv tiwari)

One of the oldest forms of pasta, lasagna is a flat noodle that you layer with meat and the traditional tomato sauce. However, lasagna has been made long before its association with tomato sauce had even been made.

Making the perfect lasagna is a lot like making any food, you have to experiment, create and let the flavours speak for themselves. Overdoing any ingredient can completely ruin a lasagna dish, no matter how well prepared. Any kind of lasagne has to have the perfect balance between everything you add!

Ingredients (Ragu):
* 50g onions
* 50g carrots
* 50g celery
* 2 cloves of garlic
* 3kg minced chicken
* 300g tomato sauce
* 300g red wine
* 1 ? litres vegetable stock
* Salt

Directions:

1. Heat the oil in a pan and add the vegetables, cooking over a low heat. Add salt and pepper.

2. In another pan, caramelise the meat and add the vegetables to it.

3. Add the wine and cook over a medium flame till the wine evaporates.

4. Add the tomato sauce.

5. Add the vegetable stock, just submerging the meat and cook for an hour.

Ingredients (B?chamel Sauce):
* ? litre milk

* 25g butter
* 30g plain flour
* ? bay leaf
* 2 cloves
* Few black peppercorns
* Pinch of nutmeg
* Parmesan cheese

Directions:

1. Boil the milk, adding all the spices.

2. Heat the butter in a pan and keep adding the flour slowly, whisking throughout. Mix till the butter coats all the flour and gets a sandy consistency. Remove from the flame and add the milk, straining the cloves and peppercorns out.

3. Continue whisking and put it back on a low flame, cooking for 30 minutes.

Finishing Up

1. Cook the lasagna in boiling salted water until al dente.

2. Put it back in a bowl of cold water and dry on a kitchen towel and start layering the lasagna.

3. Spread a thin layer of b?chamel sauce in the base of a deep baking dish. Add a layer of lasagna, covering the sauce.

4. Add another third of the b?chamel sauce and the half of the meat. Sprinkle a little Parmesan.

5. Repeat the process one more time.

6. Cover with the last layer of lasagna sheets and spread the remaining sauce on top. Add the remaining Parmesan.

7. Bake until deep golden brown on top.

* 4 peeled and chopped carrots
* 4 chopped celery ribs
* 8 ounces of thinly sliced fresh button mushrooms

* ? cup of all-purpose flour
* 1 box of frozen green peas
* 1 tablespoon of chopped fresh sage
* Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
* 1 egg
* 2 tablespoon of milk

Directions:

1. Boil the chicken in a large pot with enough water to submerge it. After boiling, reduce heat to low and simmer until meat is fully cooked.

2. Remove chicken from pot and reserve 5 cups cooking liquid. When chicken is cool enough to handle, pull off meat in large chunks for the potpie recipe and keep separately.

3. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Melt butter in a large pan over medium heat and add carrots, celery, and mushrooms. Saut? for about 10 minutes. Add flour and cook the flour is light brown

4. Slowly whisk in reserved cooking liquid and bring to a low boil while whisking. Add peas and sage.

5. Add the salt and pepper, reduce heat and simmer until thick. Keep stirring.

6. Add chicken, remove from heat and transfer mixture into a baking dish. Bake potpie until chicken mixture is bubbling around edges.

7. Serve immediately to taste the wonder of mom's cooking recipes.

How To Cook Lasagna With A Little Twist (rajiv tiwari)

Lasagna can be made in a large number of ways. Unlike the usual recipes, this one adds an element of surprise to your dish. Lasagna is a largely flexible noodle that you can experiment with to create your very own recipe. Butternut Squash Lasagna is one of those unusual dishes that will leave you surprised with its yummy taste. Try playing with some of the ingredients and see if you can come up with a lasagne recipe of your own.

Butternut Squash Lasagna

Ingredients:
* ? butternut squash chopped into cubes
* Extra-virgin olive oil for drizzling
* Salt and pepper to taste
* ? pound ruffle-edge lasagna noodles, broken
* 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
* ? medium head endive , chopped
* About ? cup chicken stock
* ? cups fresh ricotta cheese
* A small handful of thinly sliced sage leaves
* ? cup grated Parmigiano-Reggiano
* 1 tablespoons butter
* 1 tablespoons flour
* 1 cup whole milk
* Freshly grated nutmeg to taste
* ? pound Italian Fontina cheese

Directions:

1. Heat the oven to around 400?F.

2. Put the squash on a baking sheet and lightly add a drizzle of extra-virgin olive oil and salt and pepper to taste. Cook till the squash is golden at edges and tender.


3. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the lasagna a little lesser than al dente.

4. While the water is cooking the lasagna, heat a tablespoon of extra-virgin olive oil over medium flame in the pan. Add garlic and stir, then add endive and wilt. Add a little salt and pepper to taste, add stock and simmer gently until ready to use.

5. In a bowl mix the together ricotta, sage, salt, pepper and cheese.

6. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour, cook and then add the milk. Raise the flame and add salt, pepper and nutmeg to the sauce. Let sauce thicken and taste to check seasoning.

7. Drain the lasagna noodles and add to the pot. Stir in ricotta cheese mixture, mix thoroughly and then add the roasted squash and endive.

8. Transfer to a casserole and pour the milk sauce. Cover with small layer of Fontina cheese and place in the oven to bake till it's bubbly and brown.

9. Serve your lasagna hot!

Lasagna Recipe With Herbs And Mushrooms (rajiv tiwari)

Lasagna is pasta that's considered to be one of the tastiest of its kind. Authentically made by layering meat, cheese, sauce and noodles, lasagna is an explosion of flavour. Give your taste buds a treat and try out this recipe - Lasagna With Herbs and Mushrooms can never fail!

Ingredients:
* Olive oil
* Salt to taste
* ? pound lasagna noodles
* Extra-virgin olive oil
* 4 ounces chopped fresh mushrooms
* ? large chopped yellow onion
* 3 chopped garlic cloves
* Pepper
* 1 ? cans of diced tomatoes
* ? pound fresh ricotta cheese
* ? cups grated Parmesan cheese
* Whole milk
* Chopped fresh basil
* ? tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
* ? tablespoon chopped fresh rosemary leavesy
* 3 ounces sliced fresh mozzarella cheese

Directions:

1. Preheat your oven to 375?F and slightly grease the pan with olive oil.

2. Add the lasagna to large pot of salted boiling water and cook until al dente. Drain and set aside.

3. Meanwhile, put a little oil in a large saucepan over a medium flame. When it's hot, add mushrooms, onion, garlic, salt and pepper (to taste). Keep stirring. Cook till the onions have softened and all the mushroom liquid has evaporated. Add the tomatoes and adjust the flame so the mixture simmers steadily and keep stirring occasionally till the mixture is thick and saucy.


4. Mix the ricotta, parmesan, milk, basil, thyme and rosemary in a bowl. Add the salt and pepper to taste. Spread about half the tomato sauce in the greased pan. Arrange about ? of the lasagna over the tomato sauce, then cover the lasagna with about ? of the remaining tomato sauce, followed by about ? of the cheese mixture. Repeat again. Add a final layer of lasagna and cover it with the remaining tomato sauce. Arrange the mozzarella in a single layer on top.

5. Bake the lasagna till it's bubbly and heated through.

6. Serve your lasagna recipe hot, hot, hot!

7. You can store the leftover lasagna in an airtight container in the refrigerator for a few days.

Shop update: new paper items and animal necklaces.

Yayyyy, shop update!! :) I have been working a lot in order to create a collection of brandnew items for my shop. I had already been making lots of sketches of animals and then I finally made tons of drawings, colored them, illustrated postcards, handstamped gift tags (of course with rubber stamps I made myself :)) and even made necklaces with those new designs. :) I'm so happy about how this collection of 100% handmade paper items and necklaces has turned out and you can find all new items in my DaWanda shop! :)
